The historic Kings Theatre was a perfect setting for Tori Amos to play her first ever concert in Brooklyn on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, to an exuberant crowd.  The Ocean to Ocean Tour has already spanned the Atlantic Ocean and is her first in five years.

Openers Gracie and Rachel, who call Brooklyn home, included in their set “Stranger” and “Underneath” from their latest album, Hello Weakness, You Make Me Strong, and were well received by concert goers.

Tori Amos’s set had 18 songs from several of her 16 albums. She walked out on the stage, looking quite comfortable in a flowing midnight green robe with subdued crimson flowers. She began the night with a haunting rendition of “Juárez,” followed by “Bouncing Off the Clouds,” which she interspersed with parts of “Reindeer King.”

Amos seemed so awed by the ambience of the venue and the reaction to her music, that she came out to the stage front and said that she didn’t know why she never played Brooklyn before. On Friday the 13th, she tweeted “Brooklyn, New York! You guys could not have been better…. This was my first time playing in Brooklyn and I can’t wait to come back, hopefully sooner than later!”

The stage lighting added to the magnificence of the emotionally uplifting atmosphere, as purple light and stars rained over the orchestra, with most of the crowd on their feet. Other highlights included “Ocean to Ocean,” the title track of her newest album and “Take to the Sky,” a song from her Little Earthquakes album. Amos had concertgoers on their feet, when she interluded with Carol King’s classic “I Feel the Earth Move” and then segued into “Devil’s Bane,” another from the Ocean to Ocean album.

Bassist Jon Evans and drummer and percussionist Ash Sloan added perfect accompaniment to Tori Amos’s masterful piano and keyboard strokes, along with her captivating vocals throughout this stellar 90-minute performance. This was a concert experience that might be hard to top, but Tori Amos seems more than capable of doing so.
