Queen of Funk Chaka Khan’s Live Performance Dazzles Celebrate Brooklyn!
BRIC, a non-profit arts and media organization, opened its 37th Celebrate Brooklyn! concert series with R&B icon Chaka Khan. Both Brooklyn natives and those from other places made sure they attended this concert for a number of reasons. They were there, not only because of her impeccable voice, but also because her legions of followers know that if you go to a Chaka Khan concert, you should be ready to party with her from the beginning to end.
As the 10-time Grammy award winning vocalist took the stage at Prospect Park’s Bandshell, there wasn’t an empty spot in sight. Chaka fans, who were eager to see the talented singer perform some of her greatest hits, chanted her name repeatedly. As a result, Ms. Khan was already overwhelmed with joy when she began her 18-song segment.
Before the music began, fans of the 62-year-old singer were amazed by her vibrant energy on stage, her all-black leather outfit and new physique. Ms. Khan has undergone a transformative makeover and it reminded her male fans of her early days with Rufus. When Chaka Kahn ended her set, concert- goers were mesmerized, because she still can move a crowd. Her career has spanned the past four decades and she has influenced a number of R&B singers, including Mary J. Blige, Kelly Price, Ledisi and Fantasia. Chaka Khan’s fans will tell you that her music reigns forever and that she will always be recognized as one of the greatest artists of all time.
