Marco Varisco Rolls Out “Crash My Car” EP
Marco Varisco is a singer-songwriter whose music is self-defined as an “indi-pop sound from [a] love of jazz, rock and pop.” A native of Bensonhurst and South Brooklyn, Varisco is a graduate of the NYU Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music who released a new EP, Crash My Car, in early March.
Brooklyn Roads was fortunate to catch up with Varisco on his musical influences, keeping his sanity during the pandemic, future gigs, and professional prospects.
Varisco’s earliest influences were the Beatles, and from a very young age, Marco looked up to the sounds of his heroes. This propelled him into his love for the guitar, drums and recording studio. From the home studio he created in his basement, Varisco has been able to record multiple projects over the years, including his latest.
“My latest EP, Crash My Car, was recorded almost entirely in my home studio, equipment wise, now a state-of-the-art recording space,” Varisco tells us. “That’s probably something a 10-year-old me [sic] would never have imagined.”
The EP features four tracks with easygoing and upbeat tunes sure to lighten any listener’s mood. Starting off with the first track, “Crash My Car,” the jazz undertones in the subtle inclusion of the trumpet and crashing of the drums create an all-around sound that gives off carefree and fun vibes.
Moving on to track number two, “Feedback Loop,” Varisco’s lyrics speak volumes as Varisco writes with clear messages. Lyrics such as “I won’t wipe out what makes life worth living” are motivational and encouraging to listeners.
Varisco tells Brooklyn Roads how, while developing his latest piece, months of quarantine writing in a pandemic led him to not just the final EP, but one song in particular, “79th St.”
Varisco says, “When writing and producing it, it felt like uncharted territory for me. Never before had I spoken so directly about my insecurities. The sound of the record was new to my repertoire as well, which is displayed all over my latest EP.”
Varisco’s latest musical accomplishments have allowed him to collaborate with colleagues on a music video for “Crash My Car,” a first for him, which is slated to be released in June.
2021 is set to be a great year for Varisco, as the reopening of the city will allow him to go back to regularly scheduled gigs. To catch a glimpse of Varisco in action, head over to Lizzie King’s Parlor at 75A 5th Avenue next month for a live outdoor set. We are excited to see Marco’s future endeavours and look forward to the music video release.
