The Isley Brothers – A Father’s Day Gift Through Song
On Sunday, June 18th, 2017, iconic R&B group The Isley Brothers, performed live at the Kings Theatre. For this one night, Brooklyn natives witnessed the soulful group perform some of their greatest hits on Father’s Day. There were no empty seats in sight for this Grammy award winning group’s performance. This concert was the ideal gift for significant others, fathers, uncles, grandfathers or any other pivotal male figures.
For two hours, the musical brothers played several chart-topping hits, “Between the Sheets,” “For the Love of You,” “Footsteps in the Dark,” “Twist and Shout,” “Summer Breeze,” “It’s Your Thang,” “Choosey Lover,” “That Lady,” “Voyage to Atlantis,” “Don’t Make Me Say Goodnight,” “I Wanna Be With You,” and “Groove with You.” Lead vocalist, Ron Isley reintroduced his alter ego, “Mr. Biggs,” when he sang “Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)” and “What Would You Do?”
While Ernie and Ron were performing, the audience was screaming from the tops of their lungs when they sang their classics. The group also said, “Wow, there are so many songs, I can’t even keep count.” Ernie and Ron were overjoyed by the love and support they received from their fan base, from beginning to end. The Isley Brothers ended the concert with their 1962 hit, “Shout.”
Over five decades later, The Isley Brothers remain one of the most influential and dominant groups, helping to shape the face of popular music. They were not afraid to adapt to the changing musical times, when they collaborated with R&B musical genius, R. Kelly. Their music has been sampled by other artists including the late Notorious B.I.G, Ice Cube, Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Usher, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z. The Isley Brothers are trailblazers who paved the way for R&B acts to have a chance at superstardom.
