Blind Man’s Sun
December 20 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
After a 25-year hiatus, Blind Man’s Sun has rejoined forces, reigniting their singular brand of progressive rock with all original members back on stage. The reunion kicked off with a highly anticipated live show at CityStock in Los Angeles’ Encino neighborhood this October, followed by additional dates in New York City in December. With the full band lineup, including Mark Femino (vocals/guitar), Davie Chiappetta (guitar/vocals), JD Daddis (keyboard/vocals), Bob White (bass), Kevin Romanski (percussion), Darren Gage, and Mike Croiter—the drummers from both their self-titled debut album and their critically acclaimed sophomore release Of the Spheres—this reunion promises an electrifying experience for fans, both new and old.
Blind Man’s Sun, known for blending elements of jazz, funk, progressive rock, and theatricality, originally made waves in the 90s with their ambitious self-titled debut in 1995 and their mind-expanding follow-up, Of the Spheres, in 1998. Praised for its vibrantly eclectic sound, the band’s music was once described as what would happen “if Pete Townshend, Peter Gabriel, and Frank Zappa got Kurt Weil, George Gershwin, and Stephen Sondheim really high and convinced them to join a rock band.” Their sophisticated mix of jazz, calypso, zydeco, and psychedelic rock earned them a cult following, even in an industry that often failed to grasp their artistic vision.
Now, in 2024, Blind Man’s Sun returns to a music scene ripe for their brand of expansive, genre-defying rock. The band has hinted at new possibilities beyond their reunion shows, with talk of potential distribution deals and more live performances on the horizon. With all the original members reunited, including the unique combination of drummers Darren Gage and Mike Croiter from different periods in their career, this reunion represents a full-circle moment for the band.
Fans can expect to hear iconic tracks from both albums, such as the funk-infused “Lion,” the zydeco stomp of “Hampton,” and their signature theatrical rock requiems. As Blind Man’s Sun takes the stage once again, they are set to remind the world of the boundless possibilities of rock and roll, unfettered by commercial constraints and overflowing with musical innovation.
