Brooklyn’s Past Music Culture Helped Shape Its Present and Future

As we look ahead to the closing days of 2022, Brooklyn Roads Magazine will continue to shine its’ spotlight on local music artists, venues and organizations who contribuite to the ever growing musical culture of Brooklyn.

Lousiville rapper Jack Harlow , virtual alternative rockers Gorilazz  and the iconic Mary J. Blige will be at Barclays Center , while the Kings Theatre on Flatbush Avenue continues to present performances from artists who span the globe and musicial spectrum, with indie rockers Pavement, a tribute celebrating the music of the legendary Aretha Franklin, soul hip hopper Jacob Banks and the Dropkick Murphys .

BRIC Arts Media‘s  BRIC House has once again opened its’ doors , under the direction of its’ new President, Wes Jackson and is gearing up for its’ 2022 Jazz Fest being held there on October 20 -22, 2022 . Among other accompishments, Jackson was  the founder of the Brooklyn Hip hop Festival , which drew more than 15,000 fans in 2010. He told Brookyln Roads that one of the Festival’s goals was to “provide more resources for developing artists and entrepreneurs, more outlets for local business and of course showcase the best and brightest our culture has to offer”.  Brookyln Roads looks forward to the 2023 edition of  BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! Festlval .

Although some Brooklyn music venues have shuttered , new ones have opened their doors. Among them are LunÁtico, in Bed Stuy, Skinny Dennis in Wiliamsburg , Gold Sounds in Bushwick and Sunny’s in Red Hook. Stay tuned!
