Brooklyn 35 Collective: Versatility from Brooklyn Streets and Various Beats
Brooklyn35 Collective is a collaborative team of individual musicians, singers, emcees, DJ’s, producers and visual artists in the great borough of Brooklyn that pride themselves on versatility. Every artist in the collective aligns to various genres including Jazz, Reggae, RnB, Soul, EDM, and Dance. From song writing to production, an all-hands-on deck approach is involved in each artistic project.
Tough Dumplin, one of the founding members of the collective tells Brooklyn Roads how the most important part of the group is, as he puts it, “an absolute passion as pertains to your art form.”
The expression through art that can be found in all corners of Brooklyn is what drives the collective and ultimately Dumplin himself to shape his musical creativity and develop musical projects that give back to the community.
“If you’re in a Bodega or riding the train, art surrounds you,” he says. “Whether congregating at block parties or show hopping, Brooklyn is indisputably creative by default, enabling connections with others that spur that creativity manifold.”
While the borough has sparked creativity for the group, Dumplin says it also has provided strength for more creativity. The enduring times of the pandemic provided members of the collective time and space to grow individually, which in turn made teaming up again that much stronger. This resulted in the creation of music videos from the collective, which speaks to how creativity in this time “didn’t wither, but prospered and grew.”
Next on the line-up for Brooklyn35 are smaller solo projects involving various members of the collective. Member Rashid Amir will launch his debut single “Fleet,” produced by the legendary Ski Beatz (of Jay-Z’s “Reasonable Doubt”). Following the release will be a remix of the track, featuring other members who will appear in the music video set to launch this summer.
As for Dumplin himself, he has recently released a single entitled “24 Hour No Tomorrow” featuring Dana Danger of Brooklyn35. “We intend to perform live later this year, showcasing these singles as public restrictions gradually relax,” says Dumplin.
This passionate group of musicians have been working hard on their craft to create, inspire, and intrigue listeners of all shape and size. For now, “24 Hour No Tomorrow” is available to listen, and keep your eyes and ears peeled for more projects by Brooklyn35 Collective this summer.
